There is more than the communion of bodies when bread is broken and wine drunk. –m.f.k. fisher

Family, friends, food, and geography are ways to celebrate life. Stirred together with shared adventure, a story unfolds.

From 1987-2018, I lived with my family in six countries on three continents; Singapore, Cyprus, Taiwan, Germany, France and the USA. During our early years overseas, I discovered the books of M.F.K. Fisher [1908-1992].

Fisher’s stories about people, places, and food, set in France and California, were influential to my own story writing. It’s a metaphoric recipe. We are nourished by good food. We are nurtured by great friendships and love. Life lessons are picked up along the trail.

Therein lies the thread to many of the stories. Highlighting countries where we lived or visited, connecting family, or friends, or a place worth remembering. It’s not always about food, but there is always an adventure.

…It seems to me that our three basic needs, for food, security, and love, are so mixed and mingled and entwined that we cannot straightly think of one without the others. So it happens that when I write of hunger, I am really writing about love and the hunger for it, and warmth and the love of it and the hunger for it…and then the warmth and richness and fine reality of hunger satisfied…and it is all one.
